Anouk

Friesian mare

Anouk has been barefoot since February, after a brief period of shoeing.  She has good sole depth, and wide, healthy frogs.  This was the first time I trimmed Anouk, and she had well developed bars on all four feet; I took them just to the sole plane.  She was on the verge of exfoliating lots of sole material on both front feet.  Anouk's left hind was very imbalanced, with the medial side much longer than the lateral.  We will address the imbalance gradually over the next couple of trims.

Anouk is growing out some very pronounced growth rings that indicate repeated inflammation of the laminae.  The worst of them are now at the bottom third of the hoof; if we see new rings forming, we'll want to scrutinize her diet.
