Blondie

19 yo Quarter Horse mare (palomino, posing with son Pokey in photo)

Just like son Pokey, Blondie has a "stove pipe" foot, although she is not *quite* as base narrow.  Blondie has experienced some laminitis in the past; you can see some flaring of the dorsal wall.  She has been allowed to grow longer medially, probably to try and fix a turned in foot.  People!!!  You cannot fix angular limb deformities by deforming the foot!!!  It's just a really, really bad idea!!  ACCCKKKK!!!  Blondie's heels are underrun (following that runaway toe).  I cautiously lowered the heel just a touch, and rolled her toes all the way back to the white line to start encouraging the hoof capsule to stop pulling forward.  She has built up some excellent sole depth, which should help her transition more comfortably.

Still a lot of retained sole at the toe.  I rerolled her toes very strongly, and gave Blondie a slight toe rocker today.  I was also able to bring her heels to a much more acceptable height.  Blondie had her first White Lightening soak today.

Lots of dramatically shedding sole today, so I was able to really bring her heels to a better height.  I shortened her toes as well; her sole depth at the front of the foot was more than adequate to do so.  I then rolled her toes strongly again and refreshed her a slight toe rocker.

Nice progress!  I'm very happy with Blondie's left front after this trim!
