Lucky

1998 Quarter Horse gelding

Lucky lives up north in Patterson, CA, so I will be trimming Lucky quarterly, with owner Michelle maintaining the trim in between visits.

Lucky's x-rays indicate navicular changes, and his heel contraction and long toe would agree with that diagnosis.  But he also shows slight, persistent white line separation, and his sole quality is like nothing I've seen elsewhere -- very dense, striated, hilly and convex in places, reluctant to shed, and literally impossible to dent with a hoof knife or nippers.  On the occasions when he has finally shed sole, the new layer underneath is identical.  Michelle is diligently monitoring his diet, but we suspect the well water is causing problems for the horses.
