Lucy

Quarter Pony mare

07-18-08

What a cutie!  Lucy has been barefoot, but this was her first physiological barefoot trim.  She had quite a bit of heel and bar; being a pony, she will naturally have a little more heel than a bigger horse, but still sported more than she needed.  She has gorgeous concavity, nicely calloused sole, but the widest part of Lucy's front hooves is too far forward, and she has some heel contraction.  Seems like the lighter the horse, the more rapidly they succumb to heel contraction; it is rare to see substantial heel contraction in big, heavy drafts!

Lucy's hooves should respond quickly to good, balanced trimming to the internal structures.
