Penny

2001 Thoroughbred/Saddlebred mare

Penny has never worn shoes.  This was her first barefoot trim not performed by a traditional farrier, but she has a lot of things working in her favor, namely excellent sole depth, and healthy frogs.  She was quite overdue for a trim, and so had considerable flaring and chipping.  Penny has a serious and stubborn skin condition for which she is receiving large doses of steroids; there is little doubt that that will affect the condition of her feet.  She has also had some dramatic feed changes in the past six months in an effort to pinpoint and address her hair loss.
