Please excuse Sydney's bad picture -- he just kept following me and is
was a little hard to get a good pic!
Sydney has a
bit of "forward foot syndrome" going on. His heels are underrun, and
his toes long out in front of him. We'll start addressing that with a
strongly rolled toe and relief at the quarters. His hind feet have
some considerable flaring at the quarters. He has plenty of sole; in
fact, I took what was almost an entire false sole off of both front
feet. Sydney has some bruisng through the quarters, probably from
walking around on all that extra sole material. He has nice, wide
frogs, although the frogs are not as healthy and robust as they could
be, and he will be another White Lightening candidate.
Sydney, like his stablemate Billy, was a wonderful gentleman for his
trim!

Sydney had a
White Lightening soak 04-30-08, and his frogs look substantially
healthier (note the widened central sulcus in the new pics today),
although I think we will need to repeat the process several times
before we get ahead of the "greeblies". He is growing bar like
crazy, probably to protect his compromised frogs, and is still flat
footed, but the hoof capsule will become much more robust with
improved trim intervals and the chlorine dioxide treatments.
Still some bruising through the quarters, and some noticeable flaring
at the medial corner of the right front toe.
Once again,
Sydney was a perfect gentleman. I love horses like this!

Sydney's
feet are shaping up. Bi-weekly White Lightening soaks have greatly
improved the health of his frogs and sole. The lumpy, misshapen
look is being replaced by healthier roundness and true concavity.

We're
implementing weekly Oxine soaks, because Sydney's thrush issues are
stubborn and are clearly impeding our progress.
